Kanakuk K-Seven is located in the heart of the Ozarks in Lampe, Missouri on Table Rock Lake. At K-Seven, youth of ages 12-18 are able to come to a week long camp full of sports, worship, and fellowship with mentors and peers around them. They will not only experience their greatest week on earth here but will be able to take this knowledge home to make an impact for the Kingdom of Christ.
My time at Kanakuk this summer was spent as a Counselor for children ages 12-13. I was in charge of supervising and mentoring my campers as they grew in the knowledge of their faith. Kanakuk is looking for college-aged Christians who are passionate about evangelizing and investing into the lives of our next generation of leaders. Their staff needs to be equipped with the desire to show what it looks like to follow Christ in a real way in their day-to-day life. Kanakuk abides by 5 core values they seek out in their staff: love for the Lord, love for Kids, love for sports, love for excitement, and love for a team.
While working at Kanakuk, I lived at camp in the accommodations of a teepee. I was also provided meals for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. All of these wonderful perks were included all while I was being paid around $250/wk. I was certified in 10 different sporting activities ranging from sailing to archery tag which I was able to participate with the campers in as well. The month I spent working at Kanakuk also opened up other career opportunities for me in camp ministry. Being able to be in an amazing community and meeting other fellow Christians wanting to go into ministry was a once in a lifetime opportunity.
Kanakuk gave me hands on experience in working with youth in a recreation and ministry setting. I am more equipped now to go out into the work force and know how to teach youth recreational activities while being able to apply it to their spiritual growth and aid to their walk with Jesus. Being able to take real-life situations faced during recreational activities and apply them to our spiritual walk is a skill set I really absorbed at camp. I am able to show children it is fun to be a follower of Christ better in my words, relationships, and pursuit of my daily life. I learned the true meaning of being invested in the Word every day and how to lead youth by a Christlike example.
